Hi Rabia, don't feel too behind the times, I just read this book for the first time last week!

Yes, Qvothe comes off as pretty arrogant, as do some of the other characters. But I believe Qvothe is pulling it as a stunt - to play to the legend, and as something to hide behind. He's telling you if you come to him believing he is the man of the legend, that is the man he will give you. if you come to him with the patience for somethng deeper, that is what he will give you.

Minor flaws aside, Name of the Wind is one of the most incredible books I have ever read.

Give it a shot. Read the first fifty pages and see if they draw you in. You can always put it aside.

I know that I tend to be more critical about books than most. Must be a character flaw. *sigh*

I'm still on the fence about whether I want to try this book out. I'm just not sure...

:wavers:

But this makes me more unsure. I love wounded characters. I love powerful characters (I have this serious reading/writing obsession with power and the flawed, wounded characters that bear it). I love good writing, esp. that revolves around characters.

I don't love pointless writing. Meandering plot sounds...hmm.

I wavereth. To read or not to read, that is the question?

I do like character-driven novels, but I'm on the fence over this one. I read it mainly to see what the buzz was all about. :)

Hmm! It sounds intriguing though I'm not big with character driven novels, preferring plot driven and action over introspection and things like that. I'll have to look into it and check out the author. Thanks.
