The two column side bar is ok, I prefer one column because when I have my feed reader taking up some of the window, I can't see everything on your page. I, too, tend to prefer one column in the sidebar, but I think that as your categories gets bigger, it'll be easier on readers not to have scroll forever to get to the bottom of the sidebar.
